The importance of Science and Technology

Science and technology have a pivotal role in modern society, as it serves to help countries advance their society, bringing a better and longer life to everyone.
As India has a long and proud tradition of strong science and technology, it’s amongst the top countries in scientific research (and one of the top 5 countries for space exploration).
The science and technology efforts in India has been recognized for its achievements in agriculture, textiles, health-care, pharmaceuticals, info-tech, space technology, defence technologies, nuclear technology, and other industries.
Science and technology help to save time and money, helps to increase people’s lifespan, helps to lift people out of poverty, and helps to strengthen a country in their global leadership position.
With India at the forefront of science and technology advancement, realizing it’s key for economic growth, India is the third most attractive investment location for technology transactions globally.

The Challenges Faced

While the science and technology in India is impressive, there is a low level of overall research investment in India (as compared to other countries) that hinders the potential for growth that India is capable of.
The low funding for universities and the low motivation for attending universities of higher education has been setting India back from their peers and failing to deliver on the full potential that India has from their young population.
Many of the countries’ researchers are located at national research centers and organizations, such as the S. N. Bose Center, the Raman Research Institute, and the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, but not at universities.
While strong science develops from national universities and organizations, to lift people out of poverty and leverage the full potential of the country’s youth, well-functioning and well-funded universities focusing on research and teaching the minds of the youth will play an important role in making India’s science and technology sector stronger.

The govt initiative taken up to tackle the issue
