Animal Husbandry

The importance of Animal husbandry

  • Animal husbandry rears and breeds animals for meat, fiber, eggs, milk and other food products.

  • Many farmers in India depend on animal husbandry for their livelihood, and it plays an important role in the rural economy.

  • In 2019, livestock in India had a CAGR increase of 4.6% and it made up 4% of India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 25% of India’s agriculture GDP.

  • For the goal of doubling farmer’s income, livestock productivity has been identified as one of the seven sources of income growth to reach this target. Animal husbandry is one of the most common jobs in Manipur (specifically in rural areas).
